Is Karpa free?

Yes. Karpa is free and open source under the MIT License. Local models run on your hardware. If you choose a cloud provider, that provider may charge for API usage.

Can I use it without the internet?

Yes, with a local provider such as Ollama or LM Studio. Download a model and set up your connection first. Cloud providers need an internet connection.

Do I need a powerful computer?

It depends on the local model you choose. Smaller, quantized models use less memory. You can also connect a cloud provider to run the model off your device. See the model guide in the documentation for setup advice.

Which languages can I translate?

Karpa includes English, Turkish, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Arabic. Translation quality depends on the model and language pair you choose.
